What is Missions?

Updated: Jun 26, 2018

There are so many different concepts about missions that we thought we would provide some info here in hopes to shed some light and clarify what missions is all about.

First, I have heard about world missions then home missions, church missions, local missions and all sorts of missions, but what is missions?

The Latin word for missions is "Missio Dei" which means, God's mission to redeem and call unto Himself a people out of "every nation, tongue, and tribe of people" on the earth. But how does that apply to our modern day missionaries. Well, I have a story of my own being a first two year term missionary associate in Romania. In my search, I discovered that missions is a very unique personal experience based out of a very universal biblical truth Philippians 2:11. Jesus gave the Great Commission to direct the church in fulfilling that mission (Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-16; Luke 24:47-48; John 20:21-22; Acts 1:8).

Here below to better illustrate the practical application of this, is a fellow missionary's podcast on missions. I invite you to click on the link below and listen in. Warning "humor involved" :)
